CGEA Medical Education Laureate
Submitted to CGEA Executive Committee
by: Fred Ficklin, EdD and Deb Simpson, PhD
Background
At the summer meeting of the CGEA Executive Committee, Fred Ficklin, at the
behest of Bob Wigton, raised the issue of developing an "award" or other
method to recognize those individuals who had made a substantive
contribution to the CGEA. Fred and Deb Simpson agreed to develop a proposal
outlining such an award and forward it to the CGEA Executive for review
prior to the fall meeting.
Assumptions
The CGEA has a number of senior individuals who have made significant
contributions to shaping the organization, program, and activities of the
group. These individuals should be recognized as "charter members" of the
organization. The award should be used not only to recognize senior members
of the group (end of career award) but to reinforce the importance of
contributions from individuals from all career levels as we seek to
stimulate continued investment in the CGEA. The strength of the CGEA lies in
the broad-based participation of its membership and the award recipients
should be drawn from both informal and formal leaders.
Award Title
CGEA Medical Education Laureate - Members of CGEA Society of Medical
Education Laureates
CGEA Master Educator
Purpose
Recognize individuals in CGEA who have:
1. Made long-standing, substantive contributions to medical education.
2. Actively contributed to the evolution/development/growth of the CGEA
